Frequently Asked Questions
What’s the difference between a registrar and a celebrant?
Good question! A registrar works for the local authority and marries and civil partners couples legally, in approved marriage premises. A celebrant is independent and can conduct ceremonies anywhere and in any way, but these unions are not currently legally binding.
So why bother having a celebrant?
The registrars at Brighton & Hove register office will do anything they can to make your wedding or civil partnership special; we should know, we were registrars there ourselves. But they are restricted to venue, content, explicit wording, duration and time slot. And they meet you a maximum of 30 minutes beforehand. We Do ceremonies at your home, in your garden, and on the beach. We Do stories you want told and vows you want to say. We Do your ceremony on your day, just yours, and so have time to concentrate on you and your guests. We Do also meets you weeks or even months beforehand, to really explore together what you want on your day and how We Do it.
Why choose We Do?
Because we love what We Do! And we know you will too.
Is We Do qualified and insured?
More than ten years working at Brighton & Hove Register Office and over 1,000 ceremonies, we reckon so! We have public liability insurance, and in the highly unlikely event that one of us could not attend your ceremony, the other one definitely will, so no stress there.
We are not religious, is We Do right for us?
Yes! We Do incorporate rituals like hand fasting (or ‘tying the knot’) and unity sand (or wine or cocktail) mixing, if you like. Eve loves a group singalong, and We Do love dogs too.
We ARE religious, is We Do right for us?
Yes! It may be that you want to incorporate religious elements into your ceremony that are not permitted in a civil ceremony conducted by a registrar. Talk to us.
How far in advance should we book?
We Do one ceremony a day and will NEVER double book. So ping us an email and tell us what you’re thinking…..
